Helping others: it comes naturally to VIA Rail employees

During the festive season of the year, it is a great time to note a fundamental value at VIA Rail: helping others. The Holiday season is a time to give and to receive, but at VIA Rail, I am proud to say that our employees seem to have the sharing “bug” throughout the whole year.

Indeed VIA Rail, which serves more than 450 communities across Canada, is committed to many worthy causes. This year, VIA Rail employees raised $ 233,043 through the United Way and HealthPartners campaign. We exceeded our goal of $210,000, and our employees continued to raise money for United Way by organizing various types of activities such as a bake sale, a silent auction, and a book sale.

This year’s Movember campaign also mobilized many employees, along with the MS Bike Tour.

Many VIA employees work hard outside of work hours. They give their time to cause close to their heart: whether it’s fundraising for charity or giving time to encourage youth leagues in hockey and soccer.

One thing is for sure, individual support is just as important as the big national campaigns. I am proud of what our employees do and I thank them for their dedication and service to others.

I also want to wish everyone a happy Holiday season!
