On our way to sustainability
Over the past few months, we’ve been talking about VIA Rail’s transformation on this blog because we’d like you to discover, all the amazing projects the corporation has been putting in place to improve its infrastructure, its services and ultimately, to ensure its future.
Many of our passengers have been enjoying the benefits of this transformation, which has had a positive impact on our ridership.
Here are a few interesting facts:
- Since 2010, the on-time performance of our trains has significantly improved, with a 95% rate for departures and 84% for arrivals. Can we expect the same in terms of punctuality when we travel on our highways at rush hour?
- Since 2011, VIA Rail has not only improved the connections within its network and reduced the number of missed connections, but has also added new connections in synergy with other carriers, such as Air Transat, AMT and Communauto. The aim of these partnerships is to encourage greater mobility by simplifying the travel experience and by increasing the number of clients we serve.
Another way to increase the number of clients served and to improve our financial standing is to add new scheduling options. Which is why on December 10th, a new Ottawa – Québec City link will be added to our schedule and new Ottawa – Toronto and Montréal – Toronto scheduling options will be launched. As a result, more Canadians will be able to sit back and enjoy the quality of our on-board service, our world-class mobile Wi-Fi and the comfort of rail travel.
At the end of the day, the key determinant of VIA Rail’s financial sustainability is first and foremost how we, as individuals, select our modes of transportation.
